Education without Borders’ mandate is to foster educational opportunities and provide educational facilities to the disadvantaged regions of the world.
EwB provides educational opportunities for marginalized and at-risk children through initiatives in South Africa, including after-school support programs in Math, English and isiXhosa literacy, Science, school leadership and youth mentorship. It also supports an outdoor education program for Indigenous youth in Canada.
Education without Borders has focused its work on South African township schools, which exist in an education system that, for years, excluded them. During the apartheid (and pre-apartheid) era, very few children had the opportunity to graduate from high school. Some of the teachers in township schools are still suffering from the effects of this discrimination.
